General Manager in Morden/Winkler
MWM Environmental is a growing waste and recycling service provider that covers a large part of Southern Manitoba. The General Manager will lead the Morden and Winkler locations providing organization and optimizations of personnel, dispatch/truck fleets, material recovery centre, and resources. The GM will provide overall leadership and direction to this division, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and values. This position will work out of the head office located in Winkler, MB while also overseeing the shop and material recovery centre in Morden, MB.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Leadership and Business Development

  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key clients, industry partners, vendors, and Environmental Compliance Personnel.
  • Work in collaboration with the Sales Manager to assist the sales team in developing sales strategies, setting targets, and achieving sales.
  • Foster positive community involvement by representing the company in public forums, conferences, and industry events.

Operations and Technology

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of commercial and residential collection service, including:
  • Work with other regions/managers within the organization to maintain a high level of service and efficiency, this includes communicating effectively when resources are limited to ensure all divisions complete their service.
  • Logistical decisions, ensuring consistent operations of day-to-day collection schedules. Understand the details of each route so operationally in compliance.
  • Ensure trucks are maintained in good working order to avoid disruptions in service.
  • Ensure smooth and efficient operation of the baling facility.
  • Regularly evaluate the efficiency of business procedures according to organizational objectives, including monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess operational performance, and take corrective actions to meet or exceed targets.

Staffing and Administration 

  • Foster a positive work environment that promotes employee engagement, teamwork, and professional growth.
  • Plan and monitor staffing to ensure effective and efficient day-to-day operations. When additional resources are needed such as employees or equipment, review with upper management and provide sufficient data to support the request.
  • Collaborate with the Safety Advisor and relevant departments to identify specific safety training needs and develop targeted programs.
  • Establish safety objectives and targets in alignment with company policies and industry best practices that ensures compliance with occupational health and safety regulations while fostering a safe work environment.
  • Provide leadership and guidance, overseeing all aspects of talent acquisition, employee development, performance management and retention.
    Finance and Reporting
  • Assist with financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Review of Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and ways to mitigate problem areas.
  • Meet with Senior Management to review productivity reports, missed carts and containers, current challenges and develop STP to mitigate challenges.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  •  Minimum five years of experience working supervisory, operations, or leadership roles.
  • Previous industry experience in waste management, fleet management or transportation is highly preferred.
  • Leadership skills, including customer service and relationship development focused, with the ability to uphold a positive work culture.
  • Must be process and detailed oriented with the ability to multitask.
  •  Proficient in Microsoft programs and ability to learn many new software programs.
  • Honesty, integrity and proven work ethic.
  • Understands and adheres to job safety awareness and safety skills and instills this across organizations.
  • Mechanical aptitude and understanding of heavy equipment trucks highly preferred.
  • Minimum Class 5 Drivers’ License required; Class 3 considered a strong asset.
